Natural Casings

Texel Casings are supplied by an International manufacturer of premium natural sausage casings.

Our range of natural casings includes sheep and hog casings. Because our sausage casings are 100% natural, you are guaranteed an aromatic and tasty casing that is tender yet firm to the bite.

So, what is it that makes our natural casings so good?

When you buy our sausage casings you are guaranteed a traditionally-made, high quality product. Only EU, US and AUS approved abattoirs are used for our casings and this selection process means that only premium-grade casings are available to our customers.

Casings can be used to make boerewors, pork sausages, drywors, russians, cheese grillers, cabanossi and other meat products. The casings vary from small sizes for drywors to larger sizes for boerewors.

Sheep/Hog Casing - Quality Product

• Our casings are sourced from EU, US and AUS approved abattoirs where only the most skilled craftsmen are employed to harvest them from the carcass.
• Our casings are obtained from the sheep/hog cleanly and then go on to receive further processing, by removing both the inner and outer layer.
• After this processing by skilled operatives, we are left with the best white and transparent material which can be used for sausage production.

Extensive Testing & Preservation

The casing goes through a rigorous selection process which grades the sheep casings into A, AB,B and BC quality. This process ensures only the finest quality product is available to the customer.

• As part of this process, casings are selected into different sizes, called calibres.
• After selection the casings are measured into required length, usually 91m.
• Casings are then salted or spooled / tubed depending on customer requirements.
• Only salt is used to preserve the casings. This method offers the considerable advantage that their slipperiness is maintained, without compromising on their shelf life.

Natural salted sheep casings

Our sheep casings are of the highest quality and are most suitable for your products. These casings are combining the smoothness of the casing with its strength during the filling process. The colour of the casings depends on their origins and varies from white to gray, but the colour doesn't affect the quality, the strength, capacity, etc.

Natural salted hog casings

The natural hog casings are selected in different diameters, starting with 26/28 and up to 36/38. Their transparent white colours allow the consumers to see the ingredients of the sausages and are giving the image of high quality meat products. The natural casings are tender when the sausages are eaten, but also very resistant during the filling process.

Selected hog casings are the most commonly used natural casing. They are used in the production of all types of pork sausage from fresh to smoked. All natural hog casings are graded by size in millimetres and are 91m in length.
